Advertising: Policies

General policies

All advertising is subject to The Badger Herald’s advertising policies and to provisions and regulations set forth by this section. Failure to make the order correspond in price and otherwise with current rates is regarded as a clerical error and publication will be charged under The Badger Herald’s established policies and provisions.

The Badger Herald accepts responsibility for publishing each ad correctly as determined by the original copy, provided that the ad is submitted on or before the set deadline. The Badger Herald will not accept liability for changes in the copy after the advertisement is proofed by the advertiser. The Badger Herald is not responsible for typographical errors except to cancel charges to such a portion of advertisement that is rendered valueless by such an error. The Badger Herald will not be responsible for any errors in client-provided ad copy.

The advertising director reserves the right to refuse any advertisement in the case of possible liability or offensive content. Please ask your advertising representative for a copy of our rejection criteria. Advertising simulating news may be set in body type, but must carry the heading “Paid Advertisement”. All political advertisements must carry information as required by law identifying a paid political advertisment. All original advertising design and graphics remain property of The Badger Herald.

The Badger Herald reserves the right to increase advertising rates at any time. Advertisers will be given a written notice of rate increase at least 30 days prior to the effective date. By signing an insertion order the advertiser agrees to pay for the ad in the amount indicated on the insertion order. It is the advertiser’s responsibility to send the ad copy to The Badger Herald two days prior to the indicated date.

Credit and billing

Advertising will be billed each month with an itemized invoice statement including related charges and one tear sheet for each advertisement run. Requests may be made for up to four additional tear sheets. A credit application is required in order for any advertiser to be invoiced. Please allow one week for initial processing of credit applications. If an ad must run before approval, advertisers must prepay by check or credit card.

Unless other arrangements have been made, line classified advertisements are billed at the start of the ad run. All display advertising cancelled after the space reservation deadline, with a signed insertion order, will be billed for 100% of the space cost.

All returned checks will be assessed a $30 service charge and may be electronically represented for payment. All advertising rates are net (non-commissionable).

Accounts 90 days past due will have advertising suspended at the discretion of the Business Manager and may be sent to a collections agency. Accounts 60 days past due will be required to prepay for all new advertising. Accounts 30 days past due may incur a 1.5% monthly finance charge.

Special billing and handling procedures may be arranged with the Business Associate at 608-257-4712 x204.
