So it seems that guitar god Joe Satriani is suing Coldplay for plagiarism. He claims that “Viva La Vida” sounds just a tad too much like his 2004 composition “If I Could Fly.” Satriani is “seeking a jury trial, damages and ‘any and all profits’ attributable to the alleged copyright infringement,” according to Reuters. For those that want to inspect the claim, a user has uploaded a comparision on Youtube that is actually quite damning, specifically the final portion of the video (starting at 1:00) where the user lays “Viva” over “Fly.” Honestly, whether or not Satriani wins depends on how many of the jurors are Coldplay fans.
