H 21°, L 6°LA CROSSE, Wis. (AP) — The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse has named its eagle mascot “Colbert” after Comedy Central TV host Stephen Colbert.
More than 3,100 students participated in the vote, whose results were announced Friday.
Colbert received 44 percent of the votes, followed by Ernie with 14 percent and Edgar and Screech with 11 percent each.
A Comedy Central spokesman says the fake political pundit wouldn’t comment on the honor.
The university of 10,000 originally chose the name Eddie. But the National Rifle Association said it trademarked that name for its gun-safety mascot.
The host of “The Colbert Report” recently campaigned to have a room in the international space station named after him. NASA instead named a treadmill after him.

I think it’s about time we mothball some of the lesser UWs like UWL to keep UW-Madison more competitive. I mean seriously? Colbert? He’s a funny guy, but let’s explain it to the frosh parents on a tour…um we named it after a comedian…yea…I’m sure they’ll be real glad to spend 7 grand a year on tuition there.

wow, insecure much? it’s ridiculous how quickly you jump to academics to make yourself seem better than people that go to other UW schools. obviously, this is a great place to go, but there is no need to rip on the other UWs for something like this. chill out, it’s funny.

UWLX is actually an excellent school. Personally though I don’t think Colbert is worth naming anything after. He’s annoying and not funny. If they named it after Conan O’Brien on the other hand, that would be awesome.
