Memo to Bascom

We aren’t putting out a paper tomorrow.

Sorry to strip away the only decent reason you had left to go to class Wednesday, but we figured it was in the best interest of our editorial integrity to live what we say we believe.

We have pleaded time and again for Bascom to throw us all sorts of bones: lower tuition, higher tuition, more student control, less student control, new administrators, new buildings, more freedom, more accountability, more access — the list goes on. In doing so, we have probably managed to drive a wedge through at least a portion of the student body each time we opine.

This time, we think we speak for students with one voice when we say: No class the Wednesday before Thanksgiving.

The busiest travel day of the year should not be spent sitting in a mandatory lecture or quiz.

It is obnoxious to force those from out of state to fly Thanksgiving Day.

In fact, give us the whole week off and shave some time off the unnecessarily long winter-break period. Yes, keeping the campus shut down during the coldest time of the year saves heating costs, but as the above piece states, we’re willing to sacrifice a buck for quality.

You take four years of our lives and gobs of our money.

It’s time to stop adding insult to injury: Keep your hands off our turkey.

Your comment may be deleted if it is inappropriately off topic or promotional or if it is unnecessarily rude or contains personal attacks. We may delete comments for other reasons as well. Just keep it simple and focus on your points as respectfully as possible.

We allow and encourage comments employing satire, wit and irony to make points. Do not flag comments just because you disagree. Flagged comments will be immunized from further flagging unless they stray far from the guidelines and do not add to the discussion. Before flagging a comment you think is offensive, consider your time might be better spent rebutting it than censoring it.
