Tuition rates rose dramatically in the last two years, and while the Wisconsin Legislature controls most of those rates, students should be controlling the one aspect of tuition they oversee: segregated fees. Yet the student government helps the legislature price students out of an education when it hands every in-state undergraduate an annual bill of more than $600 in fees. This mandatory payment also puts millions of dollars in the hands of ASM.
We need responsible individuals to handle this money, individuals who understand students’ financial stress and will make reasonable financial decisions. That’s why I’m running for Student Services Finance Committee (SSFC) in the ASM election this week.
Lately, ASM has been acting a lot like the Sheriff of Nottingham; it’s time students had a Robin Hood who will look out for their student fee dollars. And if you’re a freshman who supports fiscal responsibility, I encourage you to vote for Jon “Little Jon” Kuether for the ASM Freshman Seat. Together we’ll make positive change!
Polls are open at www.vote.asm.wisc.edu until 8 p.m. Thursday.
Thanks!
Brad Vogel
Candidate for SSFC

I am tired of reading articles and hearing conversations which ruthlessly bash President Bush, and yet ignore Kerry’s mistakes.
No one has made an effort to defend our president who has kept us safe for the past four years, and it is time someone from the conservative side speaks up.
Granted, Bush may not be the best president this country has seen, however he has performed his job to the best of his ability, given the circumstances of the past four years, and I doubt others would have done better in his position.
Though I am not a fan of either candidate, at least the incumbent has remained firm on his positions and has not allowed others to dissuade him.
He effectively brought down Saddam’s dictatorship, and the world is a much safer place for it. We have only one person to thank for that, and that person is George W. Bush.
Kerry’s continuous flip-flopping and non-defensive ways are not characteristics of a competent leader.
The head of this country needs to be someone who is firm, and will carry out their responsibilities to the end. Kerry’s 20-year record in the Senate leaves little to be proud of and he and his followers seem to ignore this.
Under Iraq’s current condition, the U.S. cannot simply abandon them and expect them to pick up the pieces on their own. Kerry’s plan of removing all troops within six months of him being on the seat is proof that he is not the best candidate to carry out the duties as America’s head.
Only Bush has the best plans for our country’s future.
His endless efforts to protect us have been effective, and only he deserves the title as America’s president.
I stand behind President Bush for another four years!

I agree that the President has kept us safe since 9/11. I am sure the liberals will quibble with the statement that Bush has ‘kept us safe for the past four years,’ given the 9/11 happened a little over 3 years ago. Of the two candidates, Bush deserves another term, but I am hoping a conservative ‘uniter’ runs in 2008; that person will get us back on track. Bush is conservative enough, he just isn’t bright enough.

I won’t quibble with the “Bush has kept us safe for 4 years comment” as anonymous has stated. However, I will quibble with the idea that John Kerry will pull out of Iraq in 6 months. Check your facts. John Kerry has never stated that he would withdraw from Iraq in 6 months. He has stated that he would work to add other troops to the coalition and if security had improved, he would like to draw down some National Guard reservist units. You also talk about Bush standing firm and carrying out his responsibilities to the fullest. Then explain his lack of full funding education reforms. He stood firm alright, he mandated that states reform their education standards and then refused to provide all the money to do so. If you are going to vote for Bush, then at least get some of your facts correct and actually look at the intricasies of all the issues, not just the surface quotes you get from Fox News.
