As the current and future fiscal climates paint a gloomy picture for students across America, it is critical to begin thinking about potential changes and responsible choices for students when it comes to their money. At the University of Wisconsin, our autonomy over segregated fees allows for the election of representatives to allocate student money and set fee levels for future years.
We are writing to address the student body as candidates for the Student Service Finance Committee. Having previous experience allocating more than $20 million dollars, we are running to continue the work that we have begun on the SSFC. We have been vocal, responsible and dependable members of the SSFC. Running as independent candidates, we want to make sure that partisanship is not the dominant theme of budgetary debates, and we look forward to fostering a dialogue on campus between students, administration and student organizations about long-term goals to lower student costs but maintain a diverse and eclectic campus atmosphere.
We are writing to earn your respect and votes and to emphasize the importance of our previous experience on the committee. The past year has elucidated the nuances of funding policies, and it can help us improve our current system next year if elected. There is a distinct and pressing need, for example, to work with groups and administrators on finding alternate sources of RSO funding to ease the financial burden placed on students. Important changes that we would like to pursue would deal with establishing comprehensive policies toward funding religious organizations and student organization travel, as well as amending the current student-wage policies.
The SSFC is a political committee that requires insurmountable time and responsible decision-making. A vote for us will mean that you want more than complacency — you want change — for the better.
The committee this year, under the leadership of Janell Wise, has done a magnificent job balancing student interests and student checkbooks, and we would like to continue that trend. April 5-7 go online to vote.asm.wisc.edu and cast your two SSFC votes for Saar & Kiernoziak.
Hey, it’s your money — wouldn’t you want to spend it wisely?
Barbara Kiernoziak
ASM Finance Chair
Eric Saar

So, are you the two who are sleeping together?

yea it is my money, and I would love to spend MY money wisely… so how’s about you give it to me so i can. Giving money towards programs I have nothing to do with while i scrape by for rent and food…. yea, that is pretty wise spending.

The last round of spendfest was a good year? Hmmm…

This almost sounds like a John Kerry speech. Saying “I have a plan” or similar words over and over does not give us reasons to support you.
“Important changes that we would like to pursue would deal with establishing comprehensive policies toward funding religious organizations and student organization travel, as well as amending the current student-wage policies.”
You’re probably limited by space in your letter, but if one of you would care to elaborate on this, I would be delighted. Otherwise it’s just empty rhetoric.

How is it that people like you, year after year justify the false power you hold, over money that is not yours. If you were not so wrapped up in yourselves you would use your positions to demand that SSFC immediately dispand and return all seg fees to the people who paid them.
