Readers kick butt, take names

In response to "Fee structure hurts TAA" by Mark Supanich:

Don't blame this on the legislature. The UW just cannot figure out how to allocate money in a fiscally responsible manner. I don't hold it against them, nearly all public schools have the same problem. When you rely on the tax payers money, you tend to throw it at things that don't need it. Then when it tightens, you whine you can't have more.

… Absolutely blame this on the legislature! UW gets about 20% of its funding from the state. That's pathetic for a state university

In response to "UW neglects rights" by Robert Phansalkar:

Agreed. Free speech should be protected, whether improper or not. This campus should never become a place upon which people are fearful to utter anything inappropriate lest a fellow student overhear their impropriety. That is not to say foolishness should reign myriad, but it shouldn't be ostracized by an official organ of the University.

In response to "Rights forgotten; torture unjustified" by Jason S. Ebin:

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't this president consider all human life sacred? Isn't he against destroying clusters of cells that could one day become human? Here's where the hypocrisy becomes apparent: The radical right, who reveres the Prince of Peace, is pro-war and pro-torture.

The US Supreme Court recommended Congress clarify the Geneva Convention provision applications to foreign terrorists. Why? Because extending Geneva Convention protections to illegal, non-uniformed combatants violates not only the spirit, but the letter of the Conventions.

In response to "Think, Respect poorly conceived" by Donald Downs:

Are there some affiliated with the university that are so terrified of a student initiated program that asks only that one "think", that they refuse to understand what the program truly requires? This time calm down enough to absorb the difference between the student initiative and that of the administration. Please direct your constitutional argument (the Badger staffer who wrote the original editorial comment should avail himself of this advice as well) to your Chancellor John D. Wiley and Dean of Students Lori Berquam. It is THEIR specific program you have issues with …

In response to "Keep downtown on tap" by The Badger Herald Editorial Board:

Why is it always the bars that take the heat for drunks? House parties supply far more booze, and in a much less controlled way. Crack down on assholish behavior, not legally operating bars.

In response to "City tradition loses its luster" by Mike Skelly:

mike, even though i'm now graduated and gone, i know that my friends and i completely agree with your views. we usually ended up drinking more at our apartment or going to house parties that our friends were hosting because the bars were absolutely ridiculous and a waste of time.

In response to "Israel promotes imperialism" by Paul Pryce:

Too bad using civilians as human shields results in such carnage. I think that there are rules against using civilians as human shields. But then Israel's enemies don't observe any rules - submit or die is their only rule.

Oh, please! I'm not going to argue that Israel didn't overreact, but how about at least mentioning that the whole thing started when Hezbollah terrorists crossed the border into Israel and kidnapped two soldiers?

Great column! Too bad Mr. Pryce will be immediately tagged an anti-Semite.

In response to "Police lose focus on safety" by Rob Rossmeissl:

Signs posted all over library mall say "Walk Bikes," yet people fail to obey the signs and the law. I bet you will walk your bike the next time.

In response to "College Democrats give Green failing grade for tuition hikes" by Suchita Shah:

What?! The Democrats gave Green a failing grade? Weird. They're not biased at all.
