Will,
Thanks for the article on the French elections. You are probably correct with respect to the outcome of the elections with Sarkozy very likely coming out on top. Note though, the polls are 51/49 right now in Sarkozy’s favor. Also, you misinterpret an important point. You claim that the U.S./French relationship would improve if Sarkozy were elected, however, the reality is that the U.S./French relationship has less to do with who is the President of France, than with who is the President of the United States. The feeling at the moment, in France, is a vehement hatred towards President Bush. Every time the subject comes up, I hear things like “Bush is a criminal” and “The French like Americans, they just don’t like the President.” So, in my opinion, French/U.S. relations will improve when there is a new U.S. president, and have nothing to do with the next President of France.
I look forward to your next article on the subject.Jason Ebin [email protected]

You know what helped France out in the past few years? They told us not to go into Iraq, and they were right. Oh yeah, and they helped us win our Revolutionary War, but that’s ancient history.

And there it is folks, the first mention of Hitler. It is amazing how often someone so evil can be invoked on a college website isn’t it?
