This season, change depends on you

Welcome to the University of Wisconsin-Madison and to the College Democrats of Madison. What an exciting year we have ahead of us! The College Democrats are the youth wing of the Democratic Party, and we will be your gateway to becoming politically active both on and off the Madison campus.

Never has there been a more exciting time than now to become involved in politics. Joining the College Democrats will give you the opportunity to become a politically active citizen. You will also build lasting friendships with other students who share your interests and values.

The College Democrats will be hosting a wide range of activities this fall and spring with something for everyone. Our events range from documentary screenings to debates on the issues to candidate panels. The College Democrats also often join with other student organizations to bring in authors, activists and politicians to speak. In the past we have even taken on the College Republicans at games of flag football.

We also have many opportunities for you to be involved with the fall elections, not only to take back the White House, but also to help Democrats win state and local elections. In September and October, we will be canvassing for several great candidates, talking directly to voters about what we, as Democrats, value and why now is such an important time to act. Registering voters and working to get out the vote are two of the most important things the College Democrats do around election time. You will have the chance to meet candidates, volunteer to help them get elected and help make a real difference in your campus community.

If you are interested in getting a job or internship in Madison, or even after you graduate, the College Democrats also provide an excellent resource and a great way to make vital connections. As a member of the College Democrats you will gain valuable experience in grassroots organizing.

Our future is at stake in the November election, both nationally and locally. Now is the time to stand up and make a difference. We can all do this by working to better understand the issues, educating others about the importance of voting and volunteering and encouraging thoughtful political discussion. We are the future leaders of the United States so let’s start working to make a real difference today.

Wondering how you can join the College Democrats this fall? Come to our kickoff meeting on Tuesday Sept. 16! At the kickoff, you will be able to learn more about our organization, why now is such an important time and how we as college students can work together to make a difference by getting Democrats elected to public office. See you in September!

Andrew Voss ([email protected]) is the vice chair of the College Democrats.

Yeah, Dems take back the Whitehouse - I just can’t wait - the Democrats took back Congress and the price of gas is three times higher and the economy is going into the toilet. I just can’t wait to see how bad things will be when they have control of the whole government.

It won’t matter who the next president is. The country is in such a big mess right now no one will be able to fix it. Good luck, though.
