Meet Tom Schalmo

After five semesters of reporting “just the facts” for The Badger Herald’s news department, it felt odd earlier this summer to throw a little of my own personal reflection into a piece printed amid these pages. However, I am excited for my next adventure at the Herald as editor in chief. I’ve learned from some great ones before me, and I am excited for the challenges ahead.

Albeit a stereotypical response, I do bring a pretty open mind to the editorial board. I yell at the TV when both conservatives and liberals spew out bullshit or misleading responses, and I have yet to be completely inspired by any politician in my lifetime. You might not always agree with us — or maybe you never will — but I hope you will still check out what we have to say on a daily basis.

Have a thought? We welcome your input, but please be polite and stay on topic wherever possible. Your comment may be deleted if it is inappropriately off topic or promotional or if it is unnecessarily rude or contains personal attacks. We may delete comments for other reasons as well. Just keep it simple and focus on your points as respectfully as possible.

We allow and encourage comments employing satire, wit and irony to make points. Do not flag comments just because you disagree. Flagged comments will be immunized from further flagging unless they stray far from the guidelines and do not add to the discussion. Before flagging a comment you think is offensive, consider your time might be better spent rebutting it than censoring it.
