Brenda Konkel is the former four-term alder for Madison's 2nd District. She currently is the Executive Director of the Tenant Resource Center.
During her terms as alder, she became known for her constant criticism of Madison Mayor Dave Cieslewicz, championing of affordable housing legislation through Inclusionary Zoning and deep knowledge of city government rules and regulations. She kept her constituents and other city residents up to date through her personal blog, which was also known for its frequent posts and attention to detail.
Konkel considers herself a member of both Progressive Dane and the Green Party.
History
Brenda Konkel graduated from University of Wisconsin-Platteville with a Bachelor of Arts degree in criminal justice. She then graduated with a Juris Doctorate from the University of Wisconsin in 1993. Konkel became executive director of the Tenant Resource Center in 1995.
Konkel was voted onto City Council in 2001 to replace retiring District 2 Alder Barbara Vedder. Upon her election, a complaint was filed with the city's ethics board alleging there may be a conflict of interest if Konkel continued to serve as TRC director. The board determined there could be no ethical complaint based on her employment.
